A Great Read

I have been meaning to write this for a while now. If you are a fan of mysteries then this book is for you. It is a plus that it revolves around a weekly knitting circle who come together to help in a time of sadness, and fear.

Death By Cashmere, A Seaside Knitters Mystery
by Sally Goldenbaum.
ISBN 9780451224712

From the first page to the last I found myself unable to put this book down. Picture a beautiful seaside town, where everyone knows you and your business, where there are people that have lived there all their lives mixed with newcomers this is Sea Harbor, MA. Each of the characters are very well rounded, and well written, they each have such a depth to them that you really connect with them, and feel like you know them. With each page I began to feel like I was being drawn into the world of Sea Harbor, MA. I could almost see the details of the locations as they are described. Each and every chapter of this book with keep you wanting more. The conclusion to this story is so well written that when you read the answer to the mystery you really begin to see the clues that were written into each chapter but I did not put them together. I really would recommend this to anyone looking for a very good read. There is a lace knitting pattern in the back that I am really wanting to try it is for a scarf and it really sounds like it would be a great beginner's lace project.

Here is an excerpt from the publisher's website:
This brand-new mystery series spins a yarn about knitters and murder in a quaint seaside village.
Not long after Isabel “Izzy” Chambers opens up a knitting shop in the sleepy fishing town of Sea Harbor, Massachusetts, a diverse group of women begins congregating each week to form the Seaside Knitters.Izzy raises some eyebrows when she rents the apartment above her shop to Angie Archer, whose reputation for loose behavior and a quick temper has made her unpopular with many locals. But could any of them have wanted her dead? Angie’s body is discovered drowned in the harbor, her long red hair tangled like seaweed in a lobster trap.An official investigation rules the death an accident. There are speculations of too many whiskey sours, a slippery wharf, a dark night… But Izzy and the Seaside Knitters smell something fishy. When several strange incidents occur above the shop, the women decide to take matters into their own hands. But before long, their small-town sense of security is frayed, and the threat of more violence hangs over this tightly knit community.

I would really like to read other books by Sally Goldenbaum, and I will let you know how they turn out.

A Killer Stitch

Have you ever picked up an book just because of the cover art? I know that I am bad about not following the old clique "Never judge a book by its cover" because, some books can have great covers but the writing does not live up to the beauty of its cover.
Well I am reading a book now that I will say that it is surpassing the beauty of the cover. The book is called A Killer Stitch, by Maggie Sefton, from the moment I picked it up and began to read the first page I could not put it down.
The story begins in a knitting shop during a Spinning Class, and the plot starts to get deep before the end of the second chapter. The basic plot of the book is (without giving away the ending): The spinning teachers playboy boyfriend is found murdered and she is the prime suspect. Enter Kelly here, an advid knitter/CPA/Amature Slueth, as she tries to uncover the truth as tangled in the mystery as she is in the yarn for her cabled scarf. The characters are well written so that you don't need to guess where they fit into the story line.

Also, in the back of the book you will find a pattern for this cabled scarf and a recipe for some chocolate mint fudge, that sound so good I am going to have to make some soon.

I would say that this book is a 4 out of 5 ****.

Ramblings

Yesterday me and the DH and the girls went to the park. They were so glad for a nice spring like day. I loved watching them play and I think that we all enjoyed the day as much as anyone. It was the first real warm day of the week and Anastasia is out of school this week and yesterday an today have been so nice, that they have played outside all day.
My studio is located where I can open the front door and the girls can play and I am able to work and watch them. I planned this when I decieded where to put the building up. I am glad that I put it here because I was really able to get a lot done today. I wish I could find my camera because I finished a quilted overnight bag with a zipper closure and handles that wrap around the bottom of the bag and up the other side. I really like it but now I have to make three more because my mother loves it and wants one for her and each of her sisters. I will post a picture as soon as I can find my camera.
I hope that I can keep up with my plan of one FO per day. I hope to have my mother's fingerless gloves tomorrow because she loves the ones that I made for me but I did make a few changes to her's like increasing the rows after the thumb hole to give her more coverage on the fingers for when she is driving.
I know that I have been rambling here but I feel like talking tonight and I have no one to talk to tonight, the girls are with my parents and my DH is asleep and I am up watching Numbers and I don't feel like stoping. I have added to my book collection this week.

  • Paula Deen and Friends Cookbook.
  • Everyday Italian
  • Skirts The how to
  • Denise Schmidt's Quilts

I love these books as you can see I added 2 cookbooks as well as 2 craft books. I have been collecting cookbooks for the past 13 years. I was 15 when a elderly lady started this collection with a box of cookbooks and cooking magazines, the books were from as far back as the 40's with one from the 60's that is a lady that was a television cook from the time. I now have everything from Southern Living cookbooks to the current Food Network Chefs. I love to cook and I love to make things with my hands. I also love to talk, to write letters, to post on this blog., and most of all spending time with my family. I would love to write a book one day and I have one started, it is a crafting book a little of everything because I do some of it all and I think that if I were to write a book it would have to be about everything that I love to do. I hope that I have not put you to sleep with my ramblings. Thank you all for reading my posts because I really love doing this. I hope that you all have a good weekend, I will be redoing my living room tomorrow as I am getting a sofa, and 2 recliners. A friend of ours is moving and their new home is smaller and they do not have room for this set in their new home.

This picture is now gracing my desktop, I get to see them everytime I turn my computer on. I think that this picture is too cute for words.

Yesterday

I was feeling better yesterday morning and I had to return something to a store so I decided to go ahead and go. My mother had the girls and my DH was out riding a horse. Well after doing my return I stopped at Borders and picked up a copy of the latest issue of Craft and Sewing Today Magazine, I was parusing the sewing books and I happened onto Simple Sewing with a French Twist: An Illustrated Guide to Sewing Clothes and Home Accessories with Style and I just had to have it. I could not believe it when I started flipping through the pages and I had to laugh when I realized the Japanese Zakka Books seem to be just like this French Sewing Book. I got home and picked up the Zakka Book that I have and a lot of the illustrations are the same in style, and the Zakka book even has a picture of the Effiel Tower and a map of France in it. I will post some pictures as soon I start to feel better.

I started feeling bad again last night on the way to take my youngest Shea to the Children's ER in Atlanta. She had a fever of 101.5, a sever cough, runny nose, and a headache. We were there from 7:30 pm until 1:30 am this morning. They gave her a triple shot of meds to get the cough stopped and then a breathing treatment because they said her breathing was strained. She finally had a good nights rest last night. She is asleep right now in her daddy arms, and I am sitting in bed trying to rest and get over a head cold

Edited to add this cool movie:

A view into my studio

I have had my current studio for about 4 1/2 months now and I am still trying to get everything where I want it. I have rearranged about 100 times it seems. Over Christmas I had an open house to let people see where I teach my classes. So I had it arranged for that, so I decided to arrange it for classes and for me to be able to work better.

Here is part of my ribbon collection on the bottom is my vintage ribbon and seam binding and the white on the top is also vintage and I have some of my new ribbon. This is on top of a old dresser that my aunt gave me, someone had started to refinish it and only removed the paint from the top and so I decided that I liked the way it looked so I have left it that way.
Here is what is sitting on my desk.
I also made a couple of baby comfort blankets with ribbon tags.

I Want This Book

I want this book. I am drooling.

I found this one Kitty-Craft and I thought I would love to make a few of the items found inside, I really love the bag on the cover.
This book cover is just too cute.
And this bag would be a great knitting bag.
